What is Optrex Infected Eye Drops?

Optrex Infected Eye Drops contain the active ingredient chloramphenicol, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections that affect the front surfaces of the eye. The most common type of eye infection is acute bacterial conjunctivitis.

When should this product not be used?
Optrex Infected Eye Drops may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you’re allergic to chloramphenicol or any of the other listed ingredients. Do not use this product if:

You have ever had problems with your blood (in particular very low numbers of blood cells) during previous treatment with chloramphenicol
You have bone-marrow depression or a family history of blood problems such as low white blood cell, red blood cell, or platelet counts

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have any of the following:

Are taking any other medicines
Suffer from any other eye problems

Are there any side effects?
Like all medicines, Optrex Infected Eye Drops may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. Side effects may include:

Discolouration or clouding of the eye surface (cornea) or lens due to the preservative
Blurred vision, eye irritation or mild burning or stinging when you put the drops in
Irritation of the skin around the eyes

Important information

Do not take more than one tablet in any 24 hours.
