What is LoviOne Emergency Contraception?
The LoviOne Emergency Contraception 1.5mg Levonorgestrel Tablet is an emergency oral contraceptive pill.
It is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when it is taken within 24 hours of unprotected sex; when taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, it is 84% effective.
LoviOne does not interfere with your regular method of contraception.
Is LoviOne Emergency Contraception right for me?
Like all medicines, LoviOne Emergency Contraception may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Common side effects include:
Headaches
Nausea
Lower abdominal pain
Tender breasts
Feeling dizzy
Diarrhoea
If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.
Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.
Warnings
LoviOne Emergency Contraception may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take this tablet if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:
You have a previous history of infection or inflammation of the fallopian tubes or ectopic pregnancy
You have severe liver problems
You have disease of the small bowel e.g. Crohn's disease
This medication contains lactose.
Using/taking other medicines
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any medication.
If you have used any of the following medications in the last 4 weeks this can cause LoviOne to be less effective:
Barbiturates and other epilepsy medications
Medicines used to treat tuberculosis
Medicines used in HIV infection
Medicines used to treat fungal infections
Herbal remedies containing St John’s wort
Age restrictions
LoviOne is suitable for ages 16 and over. You can only purchase this product if you are over 18.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.
LoviOne will not work if you are already pregnant. It cannot be used as an abortion medicine.
Levonorgestrel can be secreted in your breast milk. You should take the tablet immediately after breastfeeding and avoid breastfeeding for at least 8 hours following taking LoviOne.
