What is Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets?

Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets are a treatment for sudden, short-lived attacks of diarrhoea using the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride. Are Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets suitable for children?
Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets are not suitable for children under 12. Speak to a pharmacist for suitable alternatives for your child if they are suffering from diarrhoea, or take a look at our range of alternative diarrhoea relief products.

Are Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women?
Do not take Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets if you are breastfeeding, as small amounts may get into your milk. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist for suitable alternatives. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any new medicine.

Does loperamide hydrochloride cause drowsiness?
Yes, there is a chance that loperamide tablets can make you feel tired, sleepy or dizzy. If you are affected by these symptoms you should not drive or operate machinery.

When should this product not be used?
Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not take these tablets if you are allergic to loperamide hydrochloride, simeticone or any of the other listed ingredients. Do not take these tablets if:
You have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any of the ingredients
It is for a child under 12 years old
You have severe diarrhoea after taking antibiotics
You are suffering from a flare up of an inflammatory bowel disorder, such as ulcerative colitis
You are constipated, or your stomach appears swollen
You have acute dysentery, an intestinal infection that can cause blood in your stools and a high temperature

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you suffer from liver disease, AIDS, or if your diarrhoea is persistent or severe. You should also seek medical advice before taking these tablets if you also take one of the following medicines:
Quinidine (used to treat abnormal heart rhythms or malaria)
Itraconazole or ketoconazole (antifungal medicines)
Gemfibrozil (used to treat high cholesterol)
Ritonavir (used to treat HIV infection and AIDS)
Desmopressin (used to control thirst and urine production in patients with diabetes insipidus)

Are there any side effects?
Like all medicines, Imodium Dual Action Relief Tablets may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness. Common side effects include:
Headache
Feeling sick
A change in your sense of taste

Less common side effects can include:
Drowsiness
Dizziness
Weakness
Constipation
Vomiting
Indigestion
Wind
Dry Mouth
Rash
