What is Canesten Thrush External?

Canesten Thrush External Cream 2% w/w/ Cream Clotrimazole relieves irritation of the vulva (vulvitis), which is caused by vaginal thrush (candidiasis). Although this cream provides relief from external irritation caused by vaginal thrush, it cannot treat any internal (vaginal) cause of the infection.

Is Canesten Thrush External right for me?

Canesten Thrush External Cream 2% w/w Cream Clotrimazole may cause side effects in some people, but these won’t affect everybody. There are no known reported side effects of this product.

If you experience any side effects, including any not included in the patient information leaflet, you can report them using the MHRA Yellow Card Scheme.

Serious side effects
Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any signs of a severe allergic reaction, symptoms of which include swelling of the face and throat, skin rash, breathing difficulties and/or loss of consciousness.

Warnings
Canesten Thrush External Cream 2% w/w Cream Clotrimazole may be unsuitable for certain people. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if:

You are unsure whether you have thrush or this is the first time you have had these symptoms
You have had more than two infections of thrush in the last six months
You or your partner have ever had a sexually transmitted disease
You are aged under 16 or over 60

Do not use this product if you have any of the following symptoms:

Irregular vaginal bleeding
Abnormal vaginal bleeding or blood-stained discharge
Ulcers, blisters or sores of the vagina or vulva
Lower abdominal pain
Pain or difficulty in passing urine
Fever or chills
Feeling sick or vomiting
Diarrhoea
A foul-smelling discharge from the vagina

Using/taking other medicines
If you are taking or have recently taken any other medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your GP or pharmacist before using this product.

Age restrictions
This product is not suitable for children under 16 years old.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, you must ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any new product.
